Blog 5b: Science Fair Proposal

1. Family Medicine
2. The problem behind my experiment is that more than half of the STDs that are contracted annually occur in teenagers and young adults. But that age group only represents one quarter of the sexually active people. There is a rise in STDs contracted.

3. If a person is a teenager then the likely hood of them contracting an STD is higher than that of an adult.
4. In order to perform my experiment I will need to obtain data from the Centers for Disease Control about the STD rates among youth. I will analyze different STDs and try to find the percentage increase in each one and see if there is a connection between each one. When it comes to the cases reported and the years of when they were reported. I will then make a conclusion in regards to the information I find.

Blog 9: Working EQ and Possible Answers

1) How best to promote health and disease prevention in youth in family medicine?
2) What is the best way to promote health and disease prevention in youth in family medicine?
3) Som possible answers that I came up with for my current EQ are:

  • In order for a health and disease prevention program to work there are five steps that need to be taken. Which are Community Assessment, Community Organization, Program Design and Implementation, Evaluation and Sustaining the Effort.
  • Health promotion and disease prevention advice and facts need to come from doctors which are experts in that field. Youth will take the advice more seriously if it comes from a fellow peer because they feel more comfortable talking about that topic with people their age.
